ABOUT THEIB Career-related Programme

The International Baccalaureate Career-Related Programme (IBCP) caters for students wishing to develop their life and work experiences in the last two years of secondary school.

It prepares students for success in their work life whilst also giving them an excellent foundation for further studies through Diploma Programme (IBDP) courses, thus reducing the academic-practical divide.

At Haut-Lac, students may choose to follow the IBCP with a Hospitality focus in collaboration with Les Roches Switzerland, a Sustainable Management or Hospitality Management focus in collaboration SUMAS University, an Art & Design focus in collaboration with the Savannah College of Art & Design, or an International Sport Management focus in collaboration with Federation University.

WHO IS IT FOR
  • Upper Secondary Students (16-19) who are looking for practical, real-life approaches to learning that will enable them access to higher education, internships, an apprenticeships or positions in a chosen field of interest.
  • Students who wish to engage in career-related learning whilst gaining transferable life skills such as applied knowledge, critical thinking, communication and cross-cultural engagement.

WHAT IS IT
  • A bilingual course that prepares students to become both academic and professional global citizens
  • A programme that combines three academic IBDP courses with the IBCP Core components and career-related studies provided by one of our partners, Les Roches Switzerland, SUMAS UniversitySavannah College of Art & Design and Federation University.
  • Foundation-level courses and applied learning experiences in Hospitality Management, Sustainable Management, Art & Design or International Sports Management run by industry professionals and university professors

ABOUT THE IBCP CORE COMPONENTS

Personal and Professional skills: 90 hours over two years to explore Applied Ethics, better understand Thinking Processes, develop Effective Communication and Intercultural understanding, and foster Personal Development. This course will be based on case studies and local field trips (Lausanne tribunal sessions for example or Saint-Légier municipal councils).

Language development: a minimum of 50 hours to develop skills in a language, either autonomously or by following a DP group 2 subject. Each student will collect a portfolio to illustrate and document his/her learning.

Reflective project: a 3000-word reflection on an ethical issue encountered during their Career-Related Study learning experience. The piece of writing can be shorter (2000 words) if combined with a film/interview/play. A period per week is timetabled to work on the reflective project.

Service Learning: 50 hours to carry out a project that has to meet specific needs within the community.
